Honoring the Memory, Career and Bequest of Henry Louis Mencken

The Mencken Room at the Central Library is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Exhibits at the Central Library:

"H. L. Mencken and the First World War: A Centennial Assessment;" "Mencken and the New York Evening Mail: A Centennial Celebration;" "Mencken's A Book of Prefaces: A Centennial Celebration"

At the Maryland Historical Society (France Hall):

10:30 a.m. - Mencken Society Annual Meeting -- "Mencken on Church and State" presented by George W. Liebmann

2 p.m. - The 2016 Mencken Memorial Lecture: "When America Was Great and Baltimore Knew Better" presented by Darryl G. Hart, author of Damning Words: The Life and Religious Times of H. L. Mencken. D. G. Hart teaches history at Hillsdale College and has written several books on the history of Christianity, including Calvinism: A History and From Billy Graham to Sarah Palin: Evangelicals and the Betrayal of American Conservatism. 

The Ivy Bookshop will have copies of Darryl Hart's book for sale at a book signing immediately following the program.
