Writers LIVE: Roxane Gay, Difficult Women

Difficult Women is a collection of stories of rare force and beauty, of hardscrabble lives, passionate loves, and quirky human connection. The women in these stories live lives of privilege and of poverty, are in marriages both loving and haunted by past crimes or emotional black mail. Roxane Gay gives voice to a chorus of unforgettable women in this powerful and dazzling collection.

Roxane Gay is the author of the novel An Untamed State, which was a finalist for the Dayton Literary Peace Prize for Fiction; the essay collection Bad Feminist; and Ayiti, a multi-genre collection. She is a recipient of the PEN Center USA Freedom to Write Award, among other honors.

Presented in collaboration with the CityLit Project.

Book sales provided by the Ivy Bookshop.

What a treat! Thank you so much for organizing this event. The location was so fitting and beautiful. This was a dream come true for me as I have wanted to see Roxane Gay in person for a few years now but all the other locations she has been at in the DMV area previously did not work out or space reached capacity quickly.

It was an absolute honor to hear Roxane Gay speak. Her work is powerful and necessary. I loved being in an environment with liked-minded people discussing things that matter. She was as gracious as she was sincere and as direct as she was compassionate. A true joy!
