Writing About the Vietnam War: A Conversation with Wayne Karlin and Marc Steiner

Wayne Karlin is an author, editor, and teacher. His books include Wandering Souls, Marble Mountain and Prisoners. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps in Vietnam from 1963 to 1967. Karlin is professor emeritus of languages and literature at the College of Southern Maryland.

For more than two decades Marc Steiner hosted "The Marc Steiner Show," a public interest radio program on WYPR and WEAA. In 2000, he founded his own nonprofit production company, the Center for Emerging Media (CEM). In 2007, Marc and CEM won a Peabody Award for the series Just Words.

In 2005, with funding from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and the Osprey Foundation, Marc Steiner and the Center for Emerging Media produced "Shared Weight: The Fall of Saigon, 30 Years Later," a six-part radio program that attempted to begin a conversation between veterans, artists, war resisters, and the Vietnamese people. Wayne Karlin served as a consulting producer and writer on the project. (http://www.steinershow.org/features/shared-weight/)

Copies of Wayne Karlin's books will be for sale at a book signing following the program.
