After school at the library, imagination meets inspiration!
Art in Practice is a ten-week afterschool program that transforms the Enoch Pratt Library into a vibrant space for creativity and community connection. In partnership with the Maryland Institute College of Art’s (MICA) Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) program, graduate art education students lead hands-on, art-based workshops for kids.
Through a range of creative practices—including collage, photography, painting, printmaking, drawing, sculpture, archiving, and storytelling—participants explore art as a powerful tool for self-expression and community engagement. The program encourages youth to see the library not only as a place for books but as a living hub of stories, knowledge, and belonging. By creating art that reflects their experiences and environment, students learn how libraries preserve and share community narratives—building creative confidence and a deeper sense of connection to the world around them. The program will culminate in a final exhibition showcasing what youth have created and learned throughout the ten-week process.
