Brittney Cooper will be in conversation with Shanta Trivedi about her life and work.
Brittney Cooper is Associate Professor of Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies and Africana Studies at Rutgers University. She is author of the New York Times' bestseller Eloquent Rage: A Black Feminist Discovers Her Superpower, the award-winning Beyond Respectability: The Intellectual Thought of Race Women, and the forthcoming children's book Stand Up!: Ten Mighty Women Who Made a Change (Orchard/Scholastic 2022). She is also co-author of Feminist AF: A Guide to Crushing Girlhood, co-editor of The Crunk Feminist Collection, and cofounder of the Crunk Feminist Collective.
Shanta Trivedi is an Assistant Professor of Law and the Faculty Director of the Sayra and Neil Meyerhoff Center for Families, Children and the Courts at the University of Baltimore School of Law where she teaches family law and child welfare courses. Before joining academia, Trivedi was a Staff Attorney at the Brooklyn Defender Services, Family Defense Practice, representing low-income parents embroiled in the child welfare system. As a result of this experience, Trivedi focuses both her legal scholarship and editorials in popular media on the topic of family separation with a spotlight on race, poverty, and gender issues.
