DESCRIPTION:Astronaut\, engineer\, entrepreneur\, physician and educator\, 
 Dr. Mae Jemison is at the forefront of integrating the physical and social
  sciences with art and culture to solve problems and foster innovation. Je
 mison leads 100 Year Starship®\, a global initiative seed funded through 
 a competitive grant from DARPA to ensure the capabilities for human travel
  to another star within the next 100 years while transforming life on Eart
 h.\n\nJemison served six years as a NASA astronaut and was the first woman
  of color in the world to go into space aboard a joint space shuttle missi
 on with the Japanese space agency.  Trained as an engineer\, social scient
 ist and dancer\, Jemison\, a medical doctor\, was the Area Peace Corps Med
 ical Officer for Sierra Leone and Liberia. As a professor at Dartmouth Col
 lege\, Jemison focused on technologies designs for sustainability for both
  industrialized and developing nations.  She founded two technology compan
 ies and the non-profit Dorothy Jemison Foundation for Excellence which des
 igns and implements STEM education experiences impacting thousands of stud
 ents and hundreds of teachers worldwide.  She is member U.S. National Acad
 emy of Medicine\, Fortune 500 companies’ boards\, and the National Women
 ’s Hall of Fame.  In September 2017 Jemison spearheaded Look Upä to con
 nect people to space\, Earth and each other. \n\nThis program is part of o
 ngoing 2020 Women's Vote Centennial Initiative conversations at the Pratt 
 Library.\n\nThe Ivy Bookshop will have copies of the book for sale at a bo
 ok signing following the program.\n\nThe Brown Lecture Series is supported
  by the Eddie C. and C. Sylvia Brown Foundation.\n\nRe-opening activities
