A princess escapes from her entourage and tours Rome incognito with an American journalist as her guide. Gregory Peck, Audrey Hepburn, and Eddie Albert star in the film that won Hepburn the Best Actress Oscar.  Dalton Trumbo won the Oscar for Best Writing. The screen credit and award originally went to Ian McLellan Hunter, fronting for the Black-Listed Trumbo. The Academy corrected the record in 1992 and presented the award posthumously to Trumbo's widow in 1993.
