In celebration of National Poetry Month and in reflection upon the anniversary of last April's demonstrations, the acclaimed poet Claudia Rankine will read from her award-winning book, Citizen: An American Lyric. A mixture of poetry and essays on race and social justice, Citizen won the National Book Critics Circle Award and the Forward Prize.
Claudia Rankine is the author of five poetry collections and the editor of numerous anthologies. She is currently the Aerol Arnold Chair of English at the University of Southern California.
Young writers from the Teen Writing Workshops at the Pennsylvania Avenue Branch will take part in the program. Reginald Harris of Poets House in New York will serve as host.
Presented in partnership with the CityLit Project and Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), Claudia Rankine's appearance at the Pennsylvania Avenue Branch is part of the 13th annual CityLit Festival.
