Join the Sierra Club for a discussion about the impacts of illegal logging around the world and how the US Lacey Act can help combat trade in illegally-harvested timber.

The evening will feature a presentation by Silas Kpanan'Ayoung Siakor and Julia Urrunaga, who will discuss the impacts of illegal logging in their home countries of Liberia and Peru, respectively.

Founder of the Sustainable Development Institute in Liberia, Siakor received the prestigious Goldman Prize for his work in exposing evidence that Liberian President Charles Taylor used proceeds from illegal logging to fund civil war.

Jullia Urrunaga has focused on anti-corruption reporting during the Fujimori regime, exposing the mechanisms for laundering and trading illegal timber.

Additional speakers will talk about the US Lacey Act, which bans the importation of illegally-harvested wood products.

Refreshments will be served.
