Explore the versatile nature of gelliplate printing and create monoprints inspired by natural themes connected to the Chesapeake Bay. Mixed media artist and art educator Marian McLaughlin facilitates a printmaking workshop with gelli plates, which are soft gelatin slabs. Participants will learn how to make a monoprint, a unique one-of-a-kind image created through the press-and-peel method. This workshop will introduce concepts such as color theory and gelliprint techniques like masking, stenciling, and layering. Participants will make a number of monoprints that repeat visual themes while exploring color and composition possibilities. They will also learn some accessible techniques to make monoprints at home with found objects.
