Art is fundamental to our society. Join us in this panel discussion with renowned artists Derrick Adams and Shinique Smith as they discuss the impact of libraries, art, and community within their works and life. Derrick Adams is a multidisciplinary artist from Baltimore, now living and working in Brooklyn, NY. He is a tenured assistant professor at the School of Visual, Media, and Performing Arts at CUNY Brooklyn College and he received an Honorary Doctorate from MICA. Shinique Smith is a painter and sculptor from Baltimore now based in Los Angeles, CA. She is known for her large-scale abstract works of calligraphy, textiles, and collage. Her work has been featured in numerous museums and she has received many awards and prizes for her works. This program is moderated by Tonya R. Miller Hall, Senior Advisor of Arts and Culture for Baltimore City.
