Join us for an afternoon with historian Jack Burkert.

If you want to know where your city is going, it helps a lot to know where it’s been. Stories large and small, some heartwarming, a few heartbreaking, the predictable and the surprising. Ten decades of history in one volume, from Baltimore's Great Fire to Y2K.  This is the story of Baltimore, its people and events: large and small, and how people worked, lived, and enjoyed all things Baltimore.

About the Author:

Jack Burkert is a 1969 graduate of the University of Maryland, where he received a degree in history and education, with honors. His working life, some 40-plus years, was spent in various educator roles, beginning with five years in the Baltimore City School system, later the Pennsylvania State University, through private employers in Washington, D.C., and New York City, and his own consulting firm. Jack's interest in history led to his developing a number of programs about Baltimore that have informed and entertained both adults and young people, which resulted in writing this book. He resides in suburban Baltimore, where he is active with the Baltimore Museum of Industry and continues to offer lectures to public and private groups, while continuing his research into the history of Baltimore, its port, businesses, and people.
