The 2021 Mencken Memorial Lecture will be presented by Michael Downs. A former newspaper reporter, Michael Downs is the author of three books, including most recently the novel, The Strange and True Tale of Horace Wells, Surgeon Dentist. He directs the graduate program in professional writing at Towson University, where he teaches courses in creative writing, publishing, and freelance writing. His awards include a literature fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts. Beginning in October of this year, he will serve as a Fulbright Scholar in Krakow, Poland.
