Join us for a special performance by Prakriti Dance. Prakriti Dance shows stories told in a new way – through the body and face movement of classical Indian dance. Stories presented will draw from Indian mythology and the fables of the West, showcasing dance as a versatile language that transcends cultural boundaries. Students learn a variety of hand gestures and have opportunities to brainstorm about how they are used in storytelling.
Prakriti Dance is an innovative company showcasing Indian performing traditions. Using the movement vocabulary of India, the company interprets modern stories and issues in order to bring relevance and context to the ever-evolving Indian arts. Drawing inspirations from nature, philosophy, poetry, and other genres, Prakriti weaves a multi-layered tapestry to transcend cultural boundaries and communicate the human experience. Prakriti Dance has performed at festivals and venues such as Jacob’s Pillow, the Kennedy Center, Atlas INTERSECTIONS Festival, Dance Place, VelocityDC Dance Festival (DC), Drive East (NY), James Armstrong Theater (CA), and Spring to Dance (MI). Striving to broaden the horizons of accessibility for Indian arts and connect artists of varied experiences, Prakriti Dance leads classes, workshops, and performances in the DC area at schools, community venues, and dance institutions.
