Save a Story! DIY Oral History Interviewing

Save a story of someone you love or a history you would love to know. Learn how to capture an oral history interview from start to finish.

We’ll talk you through the process: from how to plan interview projects to how to use recording equipment like your cellphone or the web, and how to borrow a Pratt Oral History Digital Audio Kit. 

Led by Pratt's Special Collections Department, topics will include

  • Choosing your narrator and topic
  • Preparing questions
  • Mastering effective interview techniques
  • Protecting your narrator’s right to privacy and dignity
  • Learning to record using audio and camera equipment to preserve and share your interviews
  • Practicing interview techniques with hands-on audio equipment on other participants 
  • Watching interviews of Nobel Prize-winning author Toni Morrison and civil rights activist Gloria Richardson
