DESCRIPTION:What's brownish-green and grows all over (the Mid-Atlantic\, at
least)? Pawpaws! Pawpaw trees are the largest edible fruit trees native t
o North America\, producing unique\, tropical-tasting fruit that can be en
joyed in a variety of ways. Join TreeBaltimore and Urban Forester Teddy Ma
rtello at the Central Library to learn more about this underappreciated Ma
ryland delicacy. We’ll cover topics including similar fruiting plants in
the same family that grow in other parts of the world\, basic botany\, ta
xonomy\, annual life cycle\, importance to indigenous culture\, seed savin
g and propagation\, and more\, as well as sample some ripe fruit. \n\nTree
Baltimore is a mayoral initiative led by Baltimore City Recreation and Par
ks’ Urban Forestry Division to increase the City's tree canopy to 40%. I
t also serves as the umbrella organization for City agencies\, private org
anizations and individual tree stewards involved in that effort. Every Spr
ing and Fall TreeBaltimore and partners provide hundreds of trees to Balti
more City residents and homeowners for adoption. For more information visi
 t treebaltimore.org this September.
