The GU272: The Relationship between Genealogical Truth and Historical Perspective

Genealogist Malissa Ruffner will present the work of the Georgetown Memory Project, tracing descendants of people sold by the Jesuits in 1838, and New York Times contributing writer Rachel L. Swarns (via Zoom) will discuss her recent book, The 272, which focuses on sisters Louisa and Anna Mahoney, whose bond was shattered by that sale, and the larger context of the role of slavery in the growth of the Catholic Church.
