Inspired by a quote from a male music critic who said of *Lili Boulanger, "women composers are at best whistling hens,” soprano Jennifer Piazza-Pick and clarinetist Natalie Groom founded Whistling Hens to celebrate and advance the artistic accomplishments of women through an ensemble performing all female-composed music.
* Lili Boulanger (1893-1918) was the first woman composer ever to win the prestigious Prix de Rome (1913).
