Dan Charnas recounts the life of the late hip-hop producer J Dilla.   Dilla, born James Dewitt Yancey in Detroit was a transformative figure whose beats redefined the genre and procured a following that lauded him as one of the greatest musical minds of the past century.   Dan Charnas will be joined in conversation by media executive and former hip hop artist manager Guy Routte. 

Dan Charnas is an arts professor at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts - Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music.   He is the author of several books, including The Big Payback: The History of the Business of Hip-Hop. 

Guy Routte is the owner of W.A.R. Media and CEO of the multimedia company SCHMTCS.  He is a former hip hop artist manager, who has worked with the likes of Pharoahe Monch and Sara Devine.
